Brazil and Germany win gold medal at the World University Championchip Triathlon in Maceió

It was a pretty tight competition. The Brazilian athlete Antônio Bravo Neto arrived in the final stretch of the race with the American Darr Smith disputing every centimeter to the finish line. In the final sprint, the crowd helped the Brazilian to conquer the highest place on the podium of the World University Championchip Triathlon.

Antônio Bravo couldn’t take the smile off his face and admitted that winning at home has a special taste, “the feeling is wonderful!”. He also tells you what the next challenges are on the agenda: “I have two more races on the weekend, the relay on Saturday and the Brazilian one on Sunday, and from Monday I’ll be back to training again for a race in Chile”.

American Darr Smith took second place and Fabian Meeusen, from Switzerland, took third place. In the female category, the gold went to German Celine Kaiser. Second place went to Asia Mercatelli, from Italy. The Polish Magdalena Sudak won third place.

More than 120 athletes from 20 countries competed in the University Triathlon World Cup. They covered 750 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of cycling and 5 kilometers of running. The start was at Praia de Pajuçara, in Maceió.

The competition continues this Saturday (10) with the mixed relay. The start is scheduled for 9 am and medals delivery at 11 am. The Triathlon World Cup takes place simultaneously with the Beach Volleyball World Cup, which started on Tuesday, 6th.
